How to Make a Wholesaler List

Most people new in the business spend their first few months trying to get their hands on a wholesaler list or some kind of readymade directory. The objective is to get in touch with genuine suppliers or even drop shippers from whom they can buy low and sell high. Unfortunately, there are few readymade sources and the ones that exist are not exhaustive. The best way to get started is to create your own dealer’s list by following these tips:

  • Look for distributors database sites: Many database sites contain the names of wholesalers and suppliers within specific geographies. The good ones actually verify the names of the suppliers they include, which mean you can start transactions from day one.
  • Subscribe to business forums: There is always something new to learn in business; you can learn through your own mistakes or someone else’s. There are many online business forums dedicated to helping traders and retailers set up shops on EBay, source products or they deal with wholesale laws. Make sure you subscribe to the forums that keep you up to date.
  • Network at Events: Nothing can substitute for personal contacts in this business. It is important to try to meet as many people as you can. Make sure to have business cards and elevator speeches ready in case you meet someone who can help you. Even those who can’t help immediately may prove to be useful contacts in other ways.
  • Read Trade Magazines: Trade magazines are another great way to stay on top of what is happening within your industry. Being up to date helps you communicate with the right people resulting in a network that gives you useful insights into the industry. Most of all it gives you names that you can include in your business list.
